The prompt of this episode of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai's 'On The Trail With Basho' is to write a haiku in the same sense, tone and spirit as this haiku of Basho's.
Kristjaan, the host of Carpe Diem Haiku Kai explains - "In old (classic) poems there was a phrase about the bush warbler stitching a hat from plum blossoms. Basho changed the hat to a camellia and had the bird dropping it... Maybe you lost your hat in a storm or something, so also the bush warbler could lose his hat in the storm or dropping it."
So, the haiku that follows is
As I imagined this weird scenario of Bush Warbler wearing a Camelia Hat and then losing it, I thought the Warbler must be now dreaming of the shade the Hat had provided.
Hence,
Warbler stares
at wobbling camelias
-shady dreams
What I have written is very unlike me and I felt a little crazy writing it too. But I think the prompt called for it. So there :)
